Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about insurance from someone who’s been doing this for 30+ years.

Our Agency

How long will a quote take if I call today? +
Depending on the type of insurance, you can often get a quote the same day or within 72 hours. Simple auto or renters quotes are usually done in one call.
Is there a fee for getting an insurance quote? +
Absolutely not. Book a no-obligation consultation and receive free quotes from multiple carriers so you can compare. No strings attached.
I’m already with an insurance company. Can I still work with your agency? +
Yes! You can transfer your existing policy to our office with an Agent of Record Change form. This allows us to service your policy going forward.

Auto Insurance

What are NC’s minimum auto insurance limits? +
North Carolina requires minimum auto liability limits of 50/100/50: $50,000 bodily injury per person, $100,000 per accident, and $50,000 property damage.
Can I get non-owner’s insurance if I don’t own a car? +
Yes — Non-Owner Car Insurance covers bodily injury and property damage liability if you cause an accident in a car you don’t own. However, if you live in a household with someone who owns a car, you are not eligible.
How long do tickets and accidents stay on my driving record? +
Typically 3 years for most incidents, but up to 10 years for serious violations. An at-fault accident generally stays on your record for at least 6 years from the date of conviction.
What is a lapse in insurance coverage? +
A lapse occurs when you stop paying for or cancel your car insurance without new coverage. This can result in higher premiums when you get covered again and legal consequences, as driving uninsured in NC is illegal.

Home Insurance

What is an escrow account for homeowners? +
An escrow account is set up by your mortgage lender to manage and pay property taxes and homeowners insurance on your behalf. Your monthly mortgage payment includes an escrow portion, and the lender pays the bills on time from those funds.

Health Insurance

What’s the difference between an HMO and a PPO? +
An HMO requires a primary care physician and referrals, and you must stay in-network (lower cost). A PPO gives more flexibility — no PCP required, no referrals, and you can see out-of-network doctors at higher cost. Choose HMO for savings, PPO for flexibility.
When is Open Enrollment for health insurance? +
Open Enrollment runs November 1 through December 15 for a January 1 start date. Extended enrollment runs December 16 through January 15 for a February 1 start. Special Enrollment is available for qualifying life events.
What is a deductible vs. a co-pay? +
A deductible is the annual amount you pay before insurance kicks in. A co-pay is a fixed fee for each specific service (like $30 for a doctor visit). After your deductible is met you pay co-insurance until you hit your out-of-pocket maximum, after which insurance covers 100%.
